Groupsense: Cybersecurity Analyst Tools
Cybersecurity analysts are tasked with finding needles in haystacks. They have to sift through vast amounts of data in order to discover and address findings that could pose a threat to clients. Groupsense had reached the limits of what they were able to accomplish with their existing internal tools and tasked me with designing a new application from the ground up. The primary objective was to build a design system that could support data-heavy use-cases and help analysts surface and respond to actionable intelligence more quickly and effectively.

Because users of this software are technically sophisticated, we were able to expose more powerful capabilities that are normally abstracted away in consumer-facing applications. For example, an advanced search bar component was created to allow users to execute their own database queries. Built-in UI helpers and an “AI mode” were also integrated in order to support first time users.

In order to work out the finer details of the design, I developed the components myself, which were maintained in their own repo. This ensured the delivered components behaved exactly as intended. Formal guidelines were also documented and version controlled to make certain the subtle behaviors and micro interactions weren’t lost in the development process.
